Narrative:

Assigned by ATC to descend from 5000 ft to 3000 ft. On our descent through 3700 ft the controller advised he assigned us 4000 ft. He then advised us to continue our descent to 1500 ft. The PNF had read back our assigned altitude of 3000 ft. The ATC controller made an error on our altitude assignment. There was no aircraft conflict, TCASII alert, or any other aircraft deviations from the missed assigned altitude.
