Narrative:

At last min departure clearance was received which was different than filed. Omega navigation system wasn't programmed for the new route. We mistakenly used matamoros VOR for J25 instead of brownsville which is 11 NM away. The arrow pointing to brownsville VOR is not bold enough and is too far from the VOR itself on the flight chart. Center called us to say he showed us 9 mi west of the center. We realized error and turned on course. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated he was flying an MD80. He stated they took off from harlingen sbound and made a left climbing turn to what they thought was on course. After center corrected their mistake there were no further problems.
