After crossing the iiu VOR the reporter dialed in the wrong VOR frequency 113 pt 6 instead of 113 pt 3. Following the wrong signal took him north of course. The approach control inquired and the reporter corrected the error. The reporter stated he should have double-checked the frequency.

Narrative:
In cruise from lex to stl, routing was from lex to iiu to pxv, then on to stl. After crossing iiu VOR, I dialed in the wrong VOR frequency -- 113.6 instead of 113.3 (pxv) and was north of course as a result. Approach control inquired and I corrected. I should have double-checked the frequency.
