Narrative:

While on approach the controller became argumentative because we had slowed down from the assigned 180 KTS. We were following an air carrier B727 and he was too close. The vectors we were given were too tight on the preceding aircraft. The controller had told us to expect a 12 mi final but then gave us an 8 mi final. Because we were high we slowed to get dirty and come down. When the controller noticed our speed he lectured us and at less than 1 mi from cegro ordered a 30 KT speed increase. We offered to take his vectors. Instead he switched us to tower. When air carrier touched down we were 8 mi behind and did not intercept the ILS GS until 500 ft AGL. It was the classic slam dunk.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG FAILED TO MAINTAIN ATC REQUESTED SPD DURING DSCNT FOR A VISUAL APCH DUE TO THE HIGH CLOSE IN LOCATION RELATIVE TO THE NORMAL GS.

Narrative: WHILE ON APCH THE CTLR BECAME ARGUMENTATIVE BECAUSE WE HAD SLOWED DOWN FROM THE ASSIGNED 180 KTS. WE WERE FOLLOWING AN ACR B727 AND HE WAS TOO CLOSE. THE VECTORS WE WERE GIVEN WERE TOO TIGHT ON THE PRECEDING ACFT. THE CTLR HAD TOLD US TO EXPECT A 12 MI FINAL BUT THEN GAVE US AN 8 MI FINAL. BECAUSE WE WERE HIGH WE SLOWED TO GET DIRTY AND COME DOWN. WHEN THE CTLR NOTICED OUR SPD HE LECTURED US AND AT LESS THAN 1 MI FROM CEGRO ORDERED A 30 KT SPD INCREASE. WE OFFERED TO TAKE HIS VECTORS. INSTEAD HE SWITCHED US TO TWR. WHEN ACR TOUCHED DOWN WE WERE 8 MI BEHIND AND DID NOT INTERCEPT THE ILS GS UNTIL 500 FT AGL. IT WAS THE CLASSIC SLAM DUNK.
