Altitude deviation at leveloff. PF, first officer, thinking the aircraft was level, diverted his attention to setting cruise power. Aircraft continued to climb, apparently because the altitude hold on the autoplt wasn't engaged.

Narrative:

The first officer and I gave the normal '1000 ft to go' call and acknowledgement. At FL290 I watched as the first officer leveled off. A few mins later the first officer gave a 'what's this' call as he realized we were still climbing. We approached approximately FL297 and descended back to FL290. I never saw the first officer FLIP the altitude hold switch at leveloff, so I might start including it in xchk.
