Narrative:
Mistook cleared to taxi from deice pad to mean a cleared to taxi. I had read deice procedure but forgot to call ground prior to taxi when deice pad said 'cleared to taxi.' when I saw I was cutting off an MD80 I stopped and called ground. I apologized and he said no problem, I came no closer than 500 ft of the MD80. In the future I will slow down the deice procedure and read the procedure word for word. Deice pad should not say anything about taxi but should say contact ground control.

Narrative: MISTOOK CLRED TO TAXI FROM DEICE PAD TO MEAN A CLRED TO TAXI. I HAD READ DEICE PROC BUT FORGOT TO CALL GND PRIOR TO TAXI WHEN DEICE PAD SAID 'CLRED TO TAXI.' WHEN I SAW I WAS CUTTING OFF AN MD80 I STOPPED AND CALLED GND. I APOLOGIZED AND HE SAID NO PROB, I CAME NO CLOSER THAN 500 FT OF THE MD80. IN THE FUTURE I WILL SLOW DOWN THE DEICE PROC AND READ THE PROC WORD FOR WORD. DEICE PAD SHOULD NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT TAXI BUT SHOULD SAY CONTACT GND CTL.
