Narrative:

After landing at dfw our gate was occupied for a few mins so we were sent to the runway 17R holding pad to hold behind one other company. That aircraft was cleared to hold short of Y for a further clearance to the ramp. At the time we were the only 2 aircraft on the pad. The frequency was very busy and thinking I would not clutter the frequency by saying our gate was open, I slowly moved in behind the other aircraft on taxi line to the left thinking once the other aircraft was cleared the controller would see us behind and know that we were also ready. We ended up blocking for a few seconds an eagle saab that was trying to enter the new eagle ramp from the pad area. I thought he was going to get behind us in the waiting line. The controller was a little perturbed and I apologized. I should have stayed put, even on the pad, until able to get a word in. A recommendation since dfw seems very frequency micromanaged would be that when a gate is open, then a landing light on would indicate to the controller we can now go to the gate.

Title: AN ACR FLC, FRUSTRATED BY RADIO FREQ CONGESTION, TAXIED WITHOUT A CLRNC AND BLOCKED OTHER TFC AND IRRITATED THE GND CTLR.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG AT DFW OUR GATE WAS OCCUPIED FOR A FEW MINS SO WE WERE SENT TO THE RWY 17R HOLDING PAD TO HOLD BEHIND ONE OTHER COMPANY. THAT ACFT WAS CLRED TO HOLD SHORT OF Y FOR A FURTHER CLRNC TO THE RAMP. AT THE TIME WE WERE THE ONLY 2 ACFT ON THE PAD. THE FREQ WAS VERY BUSY AND THINKING I WOULD NOT CLUTTER THE FREQ BY SAYING OUR GATE WAS OPEN, I SLOWLY MOVED IN BEHIND THE OTHER ACFT ON TAXI LINE TO THE L THINKING ONCE THE OTHER ACFT WAS CLRED THE CTLR WOULD SEE US BEHIND AND KNOW THAT WE WERE ALSO READY. WE ENDED UP BLOCKING FOR A FEW SECONDS AN EAGLE SAAB THAT WAS TRYING TO ENTER THE NEW EAGLE RAMP FROM THE PAD AREA. I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO GET BEHIND US IN THE WAITING LINE. THE CTLR WAS A LITTLE PERTURBED AND I APOLOGIZED. I SHOULD HAVE STAYED PUT, EVEN ON THE PAD, UNTIL ABLE TO GET A WORD IN. A RECOMMENDATION SINCE DFW SEEMS VERY FREQ MICROMANAGED WOULD BE THAT WHEN A GATE IS OPEN, THEN A LNDG LIGHT ON WOULD INDICATE TO THE CTLR WE CAN NOW GO TO THE GATE.
