Narrative:

After departing lee for spg I contacted tampa approach. I was 30 DME northwest of lal VOR at 2500 ft. I requested flight following as I proceeded direct from my present position to spg. I was given a squawk code and radar identify confirmed. I was on a heading and course of approximately 180 degrees when controller asked me 'where are you going.' I confirmed spg and then he told me I was not cleared into class B and turn left to 150 degrees. I expected since I was requesting flight following and I was in radar contact, if the controller had not given me class B clearance, he could have vectored me around area or told me to stay clear of class B until advised.
