Narrative:

Location: outer marker runway 19R sna. Normal takeoff was accomplished at ord. During gear retraction I thought there was something a little different about the sound and maybe a little longer than normal for the retraction rumble to stop. It was nothing significant -- just a little different. I questioned the first officer about it and he said he did not notice anything abnormal. I elected to send an ACARS free text message to dispatch anyway in case we discovered something after landing -- just a heads up. The first officer and I discussed it briefly and relying on his 2500 hours on the equipment and my 1200 hours we decided no irregular action was necessary. I had noticed a slightly unusual sound and he had noticed nothing. Landing gear was extended normally on final to sna and all indications were normal. Landing was normal. Rollout was normal, ie, on centerline with no vibration and no pulling in either direction. Runway turnoff was normal and taxi in was normal. At this point I felt that my feeling on takeoff was unfounded. As we were turning into the gate, the tower informed us that a cessna had reported that our aircraft had only one nosewheel. We parked at gate uneventfully. We never had any indication of a problem.
