Narrative:

I just wanted to report that our flight attendants displayed a great deal of professionalism and awareness and called my attention to a hydraulic problem that I and the first officer would have otherwise been unaware of. They noticed an unusual noise in the back of the airplane and made a correct decision to report it to me even though we were just about to take the runway for takeoff. The problem turned out to be in the hydraulic system, specifically the anti-skid system, and I believe that it might have caused a total failure of at least one of our hydraulic system if we had departed without having maintenance. I just wanted to let anyone who might be interested know that in this era of sterile cockpits and power struggles over captain's authority/authorized, an extra set of eyes and ears is a very valuable thing in the right place at the right time, and should be much appreciated.
