Narrative:

Departed dfw for cle on air carrier flight. I took aircraft without having the maintenance department fix and sign off the logbook having a coffee maker that was written up by the inbound flight crew. When I arrived at the aircraft, maintenance was replacing the ACARS system and I discussed this problem with them. I was unaware of the inoperative coffee maker and somehow overlooked the write-up in logbook during my normal review of the logbook and previous write-ups. My failure to catch the inoperative item was definitely a mistake on my part and I had no intention of departing on the flight without the proper corrective action taken. The chief pilot notified me of the problem and I am filing this report.
