Narrative:

After uneventful far 121 carrier flight from mke to iah, aircraft taxied into terminal area for parking. Saw 2 ground personnel with wands go to stations for final parking. Parking into gate area requires 45 degree angle in, then right turn to align aircraft with final parking line. Equipment and baggage carts appeared clear as initial parking occurred. First officer called out 'stop,' and though aircraft brought to immediate stop, contact had been made with portable fueling cart with the outboard #2 engine shell. Portable fueling cart was outside a painted, designated parking spot. Aircraft after deplaning was removed from service to assess damage.
