Narrative:

A 300 ft altitude deviation occurred on my student's second flight during IOE. As captain/instructor, I was distracted by departure/after takeoff activities and failed to make the '1000 ft to go' call. Contributing factor: first night back to work after several days off. I find myself prone to more omission type errors when going through the bodily transition from sleeping nights to working nights.
