During descent captain reporter noticed that altitude capture didn't hold assigned altitude, used altitude selector to climb aircraft back to assigned, but only deviated 200 ft. Faulty #1 pitch computer.

Narrative:
We were descending from 12000 ft to 10000 ft by approach control. On reaching 10000 ft I noticed altitude did not capture. I positioned altitude roll selector to altitude hold. Aircraft went below 10000 ft. I put roll selector to climb altitude, went to 9800 ft, and then started to climb. On reaching lax aircraft was written up. #1 pitch computer was changed.
