Narrative:

On climb out flying a SID out of laredo, tx, I was assigned a final altitude of 9000 ft. I became distracted while talking with another pilot on company frequency. I climbed through my assigned altitude and did not become aware that I had climbed through my altitude until advised by ZHU. The deviation was 500 ft and was resolved immediately.

Title: THE RPTR, WHILE SOCIALIZING WITH A COMPANY PLT ON THE COMPANY FREQ, CLBED THROUGH HIS ASSIGNED ALT OF 9000 FT BEFORE ATC ALERTED HIM TO HIS ALTDEV. THE RPTR IMMEDIATELY DSNDED BACK TO HIS ASSIGNED ALT.

I CLBED THROUGH MY ASSIGNED ALT AND DID NOT BECOME AWARE THAT I HAD CLBED THROUGH MY ALT UNTIL ADVISED BY ZHU. THE DEV WAS 500 FT AND WAS RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY.
