Narrative:

Upon putting landing gear handle down, got red 'nose gear' light only. 10 seconds later got green 'gear' light also. Putting flaps to 30 degrees for landing caused landing gear warning horn. Executed go around. Visual check of nose gear through viewing port showed nose gear down and locked. Complied with abnormal procedure. Red gear light eventually extinguished and only showed 3 down and locked (normal). Declared emergency as a precaution and executed normal approach and landing. Pinned nose gear after clearing runway. Simple mechanic failure (proximity switch) discovered in normal checklist sequence. No contributing factors. Corrective action in accordance with operating manual. First officer was PF and made decision to go around. Captain didn't seem as if he was going to call for a missed approach in spite of red gear unsafe light and gear warning horn.
