Narrative:

We were scheduled by our company to deadhead msp-ord, and then fly ord-aca-ord. The flight time on our schedule for the ord-aca-ord portion was listed at 7 hours 55 mins. On the day of the flight, however, the flight plans showed just over 8 hours for those 2 segments, which did not include the 4 taxi segments. Investigation revealed that even though this trip had been flown several times it had yet to be done under 8 hours. FARS prohibit us from accepting a schedule with over 8 hours, but the company claimed it was legal since it was 'scheduled' under 8 hours. It appears as though the company is assigning us unrealistic schedules to avoid putting on a third pilot. We flew the trip as directed by the company (after notifying them of our concern). We flew at maximum speed with direct routing, and it took approximately 8 1/2 hours.
