Narrative:

Due to a schedule pairing with a couple of 24 hour periods within it that contain nearly 8 hours of flying, and a delayed departure due to WX on the first day, it appears that I may have exceeded 8 hours flying in a 24 hour period. Because of the initial delay, subsequent ground times were shortened. Because of WX, all segment times from block- to-block were lengthened beyond scheduled times. The combination of these 2 compounded or heightened the possibility of an 8 in 24 problem. Because our company so closely tracks our time (on a very up-to-the-min basis) and regularly notifies us of impending problems of this type, this impending problem was not thought by us to be an eventual occurrence, or probability. It appears our company notified us 1 leg after the problem occurred, and removed us from the trip at that time.

Title: FLC OF MD80 EXCEEDS 8 IN 24 RULE.

Narrative: DUE TO A SCHEDULE PAIRING WITH A COUPLE OF 24 HR PERIODS WITHIN IT THAT CONTAIN NEARLY 8 HRS OF FLYING, AND A DELAYED DEP DUE TO WX ON THE FIRST DAY, IT APPEARS THAT I MAY HAVE EXCEEDED 8 HRS FLYING IN A 24 HR PERIOD. BECAUSE OF THE INITIAL DELAY, SUBSEQUENT GND TIMES WERE SHORTENED. BECAUSE OF WX, ALL SEGMENT TIMES FROM BLOCK- TO-BLOCK WERE LENGTHENED BEYOND SCHEDULED TIMES. THE COMBINATION OF THESE 2 COMPOUNDED OR HEIGHTENED THE POSSIBILITY OF AN 8 IN 24 PROB. BECAUSE OUR COMPANY SO CLOSELY TRACKS OUR TIME (ON A VERY UP-TO-THE-MIN BASIS) AND REGULARLY NOTIFIES US OF IMPENDING PROBS OF THIS TYPE, THIS IMPENDING PROB WAS NOT THOUGHT BY US TO BE AN EVENTUAL OCCURRENCE, OR PROBABILITY. IT APPEARS OUR COMPANY NOTIFIED US 1 LEG AFTER THE PROB OCCURRED, AND REMOVED US FROM THE TRIP AT THAT TIME.
