During nanci arrival into lga, aircraft was vectored 090 degree heading to intercept 045 degrees into lga for expressway visual, cleared to 6000 ft. At approximately 6800 ft, descending to 6000 ft, received TCASII 'traffic, traffic.' traffic visually acquired behind moving left to right level 6000 ft. Crew queried controller who stated that he meant to clear us to 7000 ft MSL, but traffic was behind and not a problem and to continue with expressway visual. Flight progressed uneventfully.
