Narrative:

Lax ground control (south) instructed us, 'turn right on taxiway K, north route runway 24L.' once on taxiway K (wbound), the crew elected to take runway 25R for weight considerations. Ground was informed and replied, 'taxi wbound to taxiway 47, left turn and join taxiway J to runway 25R.' (taxiway 47 was used for jet blast reasons.) just prior to taxiway 47, we felt the aircraft shudder, then someone on ground frequency informed us we had struck a baggage cart. Aircraft was stopped on taxiway K, and the so went back in the cabin to check for any visible damage. Aircraft was then returned to gate with flaps left in takeoff confign (flaps 15 degrees). It appeared that 3 baggage carts were parked in the green painted area outside the taxi lights between service road and taxiway K. Aircraft left outboard leading edge device and wingtip light were damaged.
