Narrative:

Declared emergency. Just prior to entering hold at sps on the boids 5, heading flag appeared on captain's HSI while on the navigation mode. Headings were 60 degrees off. ONS (omega navigational system) failed. WX was 500 and 1 1/2 at dfw. Declared an emergency. 5 mins later restored HSI in the radial mode. Retracted the emergency status.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG EXPERIENCED HSI HEADING INDICATION FAILURE WHEN STARTING A HOLDING PATTERN AND DECLARED AN EMER. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE EMER WAS CANCELED WHEN CHANGING TO ANOTHER NAV SYS MODE.
