Narrative:

While attempting to turn left from taxiway D onto the outer taxiway B at jfk international, I was unable to turn the aircraft more than 45 degrees due to the complete lack of traction on the icy snow packed txwys. It was obvious any further attempt to negotiate the turn would have carried us off the taxiway, so we notified ground control, shut down the engines, and requested a company tug to tow us through the remainder of the turn all the while remaining centered on the txwys. Sanding was in progress at the time, but had not yet been accomplished at our location.

Title: CAPT OF A WDB STOPPED TAXIING WHEN THE ACFT NO LONGER HAD TRACTION ON THE ICY TXWY.

Narrative: WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN L FROM TXWY D ONTO THE OUTER TXWY B AT JFK INTL, I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE ACFT MORE THAN 45 DEGS DUE TO THE COMPLETE LACK OF TRACTION ON THE ICY SNOW PACKED TXWYS. IT WAS OBVIOUS ANY FURTHER ATTEMPT TO NEGOTIATE THE TURN WOULD HAVE CARRIED US OFF THE TXWY, SO WE NOTIFIED GND CTL, SHUT DOWN THE ENGS, AND REQUESTED A COMPANY TUG TO TOW US THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE TURN ALL THE WHILE REMAINING CTRED ON THE TXWYS. SANDING WAS IN PROGRESS AT THE TIME, BUT HAD NOT YET BEEN ACCOMPLISHED AT OUR LOCATION.
