Narrative:

B737-500 EFIS aircraft. Autoplt off. Filed departure was playa ii FMS. We were assigned a heading of 250 degrees after takeoff. Our departure was in VOR/ILS captain side. Center map track-up 40 mi scale on my side. We were cleared direct to 'skuba' intersection. The captain started his turn left and after 20 seconds or so we noticed the captain side was still requiring a turn where my side said we were past a direct heading to 'skuba.' the captain went back to VOR on his RMI and corrected his heading. We advised ATC that we had over turned our heading due to navigation information error and were correcting but could not fly FMS departure. We later found out that the captain's FMS position appeared to be frozen and the wind component readout said 250 degrees at 295 KTS.
