Narrative:

In cruise, after 13 hours, onset of light turbulence and the flight start being turned on, #3 engine flamed out. Fuel was being xfed from #4 tank to #3 engine. Descent clearance was obtained and aircraft descended to FL310. Restart was accomplished after engine shutdown per the manual. No high egt, north, or N2 were noted. Flight was completed without further incident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter so says they wrote up the engine in hkg and aircraft sat for 30 hours while mechanics checked it over. The problem, they believed, was the fuel control unit. After adjustment, the engine operated normally. Reporter was questioned if xfeeding from the #4 fuel tank to the #3 engine could have contributed to the flameout. If that were the case then there should have been booster pressure lights from the engine boost pumps and there were no lights.

Title: ENG FLAMEOUT IN CRUISE JUST PRIOR TO DSCNT. DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY FUEL CTL. ENG RESTARTED AFTER ACFT DSNDED TO LOWER ALT.

Narrative: IN CRUISE, AFTER 13 HRS, ONSET OF LIGHT TURB AND THE FLT START BEING TURNED ON, #3 ENG FLAMED OUT. FUEL WAS BEING XFED FROM #4 TANK TO #3 ENG. DSCNT CLRNC WAS OBTAINED AND ACFT DSNDED TO FL310. RESTART WAS ACCOMPLISHED AFTER ENG SHUTDOWN PER THE MANUAL. NO HIGH EGT, N, OR N2 WERE NOTED. FLT WAS COMPLETED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR SO SAYS THEY WROTE UP THE ENG IN HKG AND ACFT SAT FOR 30 HRS WHILE MECHS CHKED IT OVER. THE PROB, THEY BELIEVED, WAS THE FUEL CTL UNIT. AFTER ADJUSTMENT, THE ENG OPERATED NORMALLY. RPTR WAS QUESTIONED IF XFEEDING FROM THE #4 FUEL TANK TO THE #3 ENG COULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE FLAMEOUT. IF THAT WERE THE CASE THEN THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN BOOSTER PRESSURE LIGHTS FROM THE ENG BOOST PUMPS AND THERE WERE NO LIGHTS.
