Narrative:

During a night flight over water, passenger and then pilot smelled smoke. Because of night could not see smoke. Asked bos approach control for vector to nearest airport for a precautionary landing. Landed without incident at NAS weymouth. Examination found no evidence of fire or malfunction. This was first time aircraft heater was used and mechanic believes this was the source of the smell.

Title: PLT OF A BEECH BONANZA RPTED SMOKE SMELL IN THE CABIN AND BOS APCH GAVE HIM A VECTOR TO THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT. 'SMOKE' APPARENTLY CAME FROM THE HEATER. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAD BEEN USED.

Narrative: DURING A NIGHT FLT OVER WATER, PAX AND THEN PLT SMELLED SMOKE. BECAUSE OF NIGHT COULD NOT SEE SMOKE. ASKED BOS APCH CTL FOR VECTOR TO NEAREST ARPT FOR A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG.
