Narrative:

On climb out from dtw we were given numerous speed and altitude restrs. At approximately 17000 ft we were given the clearance 'cross 5 mi north vwv at or above FL210 to maintain FL230, speed not to exceed 290 KTS.' I was programming this data into the FMC as we passed through FL180. Due to the distraction, I missed the callout to reset altimeters to 29.92. We were subsequently cleared to FL290. Controller reported us 400 ft high and crossing aircraft reported as 1600 ft below on TCASII. The captain (PF) made an immediate adjustment to 29.92 and FL290. I estimate we were 200-300 ft high when passing the aircraft above us. I will be extra vigilant in the future to avoid this type of distraction. It is particularly a problem on FMC equipped aircraft due to programming duties conflicting with standard procedures.

Title: FLC CLBED THROUGH FL290 ASSIGNED TO FL294.

Narrative: ON CLBOUT FROM DTW WE WERE GIVEN NUMEROUS SPD AND ALT RESTRS. AT APPROX 17000 FT WE WERE GIVEN THE CLRNC 'CROSS 5 MI N VWV AT OR ABOVE FL210 TO MAINTAIN FL230, SPD NOT TO EXCEED 290 KTS.' I WAS PROGRAMMING THIS DATA INTO THE FMC AS WE PASSED THROUGH FL180. DUE TO THE DISTR, I MISSED THE CALLOUT TO RESET ALTIMETERS TO 29.92. WE WERE SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED TO FL290. CTLR RPTED US 400 FT HIGH AND XING ACFT RPTED AS 1600 FT BELOW ON TCASII. THE CAPT (PF) MADE AN IMMEDIATE ADJUSTMENT TO 29.92 AND FL290. I ESTIMATE WE WERE 200-300 FT HIGH WHEN PASSING THE ACFT ABOVE US. I WILL BE EXTRA VIGILANT IN THE FUTURE TO AVOID THIS TYPE OF DISTR. IT IS PARTICULARLY A PROB ON FMC EQUIPPED ACFT DUE TO PROGRAMMING DUTIES CONFLICTING WITH STANDARD PROCS.
