Narrative:

Normal approach and landing on runway 29 in lewiston, identification. After touchdown the aircraft pulled slightly right as light braking and reverse thrust was applied. Correction to centerline was accomplished. As braking effort increased aircraft again began to pull to the right, this time with tendency not to correct back to centerline dispite attempts by the first officer, with differential braking. As the runway edge approached, maximum braking and full rudder pressure on the left side failed to return the aircraft to center and the aircraft left the runway approximately 1500 ft from the departure end on the north side. The captain engaged the nose wheel steering and brought the aircraft back to the runway. Missing a single runway light. Maintenance concluded, after visual and high speed taxi tests that the left brake(south) were failing under medium to heavy braking loads, thus causing the pull to the right. No other damage was observed on the aircraft or the airport.

Title: FA22 BRAKE MALFUNCTION LED TO RWY EXCURSION. NO ACFT OR PROPERTY DAMAGE OCCURRED. ACFT EQUIP PROB L BRAKE. RWY EXCURSION.

Narrative: NORMAL APCH AND LNDG ON RWY 29 IN LEWISTON, ID. AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE ACFT PULLED SLIGHTLY R AS LIGHT BRAKING AND REVERSE THRUST WAS APPLIED. CORRECTION TO CENTERLINE WAS ACCOMPLISHED. AS BRAKING EFFORT INCREASED ACFT AGAIN BEGAN TO PULL TO THE R, THIS TIME WITH TENDENCY NOT TO CORRECT BACK TO CENTERLINE DISPITE ATTEMPTS BY THE FO, WITH DIFFERENTIAL BRAKING. AS THE RWY EDGE APCHED, MAX BRAKING AND FULL RUDDER PRESSURE ON THE L SIDE FAILED TO RETURN THE ACFT TO CENTER AND THE ACFT LEFT THE RWY APPROX 1500 FT FROM THE DEP END ON THE N SIDE. THE CAPT ENGAGED THE NOSE WHEEL STEERING AND BROUGHT THE ACFT BACK TO THE RWY. MISSING A SINGLE RWY LIGHT. MAINT CONCLUDED, AFTER VISUAL AND HIGH SPD TAXI TESTS THAT THE L BRAKE(S) WERE FAILING UNDER MEDIUM TO HVY BRAKING LOADS, THUS CAUSING THE PULL TO THE R. NO OTHER DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED ON THE ACFT OR THE ARPT.
