Narrative:

Given perno 8H, runway 10, readback ok and thoroughly briefed. On departure, when given second departure frequency of 120.95, the controller was very difficult to understand. We were given a climb from FL110 to FL140. At approximately 20 DME from paris (cdg) we asked for direct to mmd, and momentarily turned to 120 degrees (about 30 degrees right of intended course) on the margy 8H, runway 10 SID which I mistook as the original SID clearance while trying to pick up and understand our instructions. The controller asked our heading and if we were going to margy. I said 120 degrees and yes but meant to say to perno. He said we were in radar contact, turn to 070 degrees. He then asked if our destination was fra? I said yes, and he said to climb to FL220, then amended it to FL170, then a frequency change to 121.15 was given. That next controller said to go back to the previous controller. Upon rechking-in with him, he said to immediately climb to FL200 and traffic was at 11 O'clock and FL180. We did so and saw the traffic. He then said to go to luxie, I said we would, and then a min later, said to go to luxie again. All xmissions were repeated exactly and with our call sign, as I always do. He again asked us if we were going to fra as our destination, as it was, and I acknowledged. We were then handed off and climbed to FL290. Rest of trip uneventful. Bottom line -- in the 'heat of battle' listen to what I am saying, ie: saying we were going to margy, when I meant perno, I realized my mistake about saying the wrong name, but did not try to explain to the controller, to keep xmissions short and because already we were in radar contact and on new heading assigned. Also, I recommend to take the cdg SID's and keep each one together, not splitting them up on the page so you have to look elsewhere for continuation of instructions. I am familiar with these sids, (have been for over 1 1/2 yrs) but they are still poorly laid out on paper.

HE THEN SAID TO GO TO LUXIE, I SAID WE WOULD, AND THEN A MIN LATER, SAID TO GO TO LUXIE AGAIN. ALL XMISSIONS WERE REPEATED EXACTLY AND WITH OUR CALL SIGN, AS I ALWAYS DO. HE AGAIN ASKED US IF WE WERE GOING TO FRA AS OUR DEST, AS IT WAS, AND I ACKNOWLEDGED. WE WERE THEN HANDED OFF AND CLBED TO FL290. REST OF TRIP UNEVENTFUL. BOTTOM LINE -- IN THE 'HEAT OF BATTLE' LISTEN TO WHAT I AM SAYING, IE: SAYING WE WERE GOING TO MARGY, WHEN I MEANT PERNO, I REALIZED MY MISTAKE ABOUT SAYING THE WRONG NAME, BUT DID NOT TRY TO EXPLAIN TO THE CTLR, TO KEEP XMISSIONS SHORT AND BECAUSE ALREADY WE WERE IN RADAR CONTACT AND ON NEW HDG ASSIGNED. ALSO, I RECOMMEND TO TAKE THE CDG SID'S AND KEEP EACH ONE TOGETHER, NOT SPLITTING THEM UP ON THE PAGE SO YOU HAVE TO LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR CONTINUATION OF INSTRUCTIONS. I AM FAMILIAR WITH THESE SIDS, (HAVE BEEN FOR OVER 1 1/2 YRS) BUT THEY ARE STILL POORLY LAID OUT ON PAPER.
