Narrative:
On climb out, 18 mi west of aml, climbing from FL185 to FL190, autoplt/DFGS in performance mode without manipulation of any kind, suddenly switched to vertical speed into a descent. Aircraft pitched down accordingly. Recovery was made at 17700 ft and a normal climb was reestablished. No repeat occurred.
