Narrative:

Departed new york helicopter 6n5. I was acting as copilot. My responsibilities are setting up radios and navigation and making radio calls. Pilot keeps his eyes outside and flies aircraft. After we departed 6n5, I asked pilot how he wanted to proceed to destination. He replied up harlem river to george washington bridge. Lga class B cleared us to george washington bridge where we cleared class B and lga cut us loose. I tuned in teb tower. Pilot said he would go around teb. We have an argus roving map display, I pointed to display and commented we would have to stay outside the teb area circle on the display, he agreed. At that time he was on a heading to go around teb's class D. I proceeded to study our chart to see what other control areas we would have to encounter. Our destination was unfamiliar to us, so we weren't sure of the route. As I was studying the chart, I heard teb tower calling us out as traffic to an aircraft who was landing at teb. I looked up saw we were into teb class D. Teb tower called us and I responded. They informed us we were 3 mi from their field. We were then given clearance through their area. I have no idea why pilot didn't go around class D. I should have paid more attention outside since we were so close to their class D. I could have also convinced him to take the more direct route, called teb for clearance and avoided the incursion.

Title: CAPT OF A CPR HELI INADVERTENTLY ENTERED CLASS D AIRSPACE.

Narrative: DEPARTED NEW YORK HELI 6N5. I WAS ACTING AS COPLT. MY RESPONSIBILITIES ARE SETTING UP RADIOS AND NAV AND MAKING RADIO CALLS. PLT KEEPS HIS EYES OUTSIDE AND FLIES ACFT. AFTER WE DEPARTED 6N5, I ASKED PLT HOW HE WANTED TO PROCEED TO DEST. HE REPLIED UP HARLEM RIVER TO GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE. LGA CLASS B CLRED US TO GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE WHERE WE CLRED CLASS B AND LGA CUT US LOOSE. I TUNED IN TEB TWR. PLT SAID HE WOULD GO AROUND TEB. WE HAVE AN ARGUS ROVING MAP DISPLAY, I POINTED TO DISPLAY AND COMMENTED WE WOULD HAVE TO STAY OUTSIDE THE TEB AREA CIRCLE ON THE DISPLAY, HE AGREED. AT THAT TIME HE WAS ON A HDG TO GO AROUND TEB'S CLASS D. I PROCEEDED TO STUDY OUR CHART TO SEE WHAT OTHER CTL AREAS WE WOULD HAVE TO ENCOUNTER. OUR DEST WAS UNFAMILIAR TO US, SO WE WEREN'T SURE OF THE RTE. AS I WAS STUDYING THE CHART, I HEARD TEB TWR CALLING US OUT AS TFC TO AN ACFT WHO WAS LNDG AT TEB. I LOOKED UP SAW WE WERE INTO TEB CLASS D. TEB TWR CALLED US AND I RESPONDED. THEY INFORMED US WE WERE 3 MI FROM THEIR FIELD. WE WERE THEN GIVEN CLRNC THROUGH THEIR AREA. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY PLT DIDN'T GO AROUND CLASS D. I SHOULD HAVE PAID MORE ATTN OUTSIDE SINCE WE WERE SO CLOSE TO THEIR CLASS D. I COULD HAVE ALSO CONVINCED HIM TO TAKE THE MORE DIRECT RTE, CALLED TEB FOR CLRNC AND AVOIDED THE INCURSION.
