Narrative:

I went into the orlando FAA flight standards district offices at around XA00 pm to get an authority/authorized to take the ATP written examination. Before this date though, I noticed that my first class medical certificate which was issued on jun/xx/94 had expired for 1ST and 2ND class privileges and was now basically a 3RD class medical. I told my friends I thought I needed a first class in order to receive an authority/authorized to take an ATP written and they suggested since I had scheduled my examination already for the following day (sat) that I white-out the date from a 94 to change it to a 95 which would make it appear to be a first class. I said no, I would go in and see if the FAA would give me an authority/authorized with a 3RD class if everything else was in order. Well I guess in an effort of trying to help me, my friends took my medical and changed the date from 94 to 95. Not knowing this had taken place I went into the FSDO and showed them everything they needed, whereupon they noticed the alteration on the medical certificate. To make a long story short, they questioned me and I was shocked to see that it was actually changed. Anyway, after some probing questions from the inspectors I confessed that in an effort to help me, my non aviation related friends had falsified my medical, not knowing or realizing the consequences and trouble they could get me into. The FAA inspectors were not very sympathetic and basically said I would be hearing from them. I do have a new medical now but am very worried what is going to happen. I'm young and have my whole career ahead of me. I only hope that someone will understand the situation and this can be resolved without major action being taken against my ratings. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states the FAA follow up indicated a yr's suspension of his certificates and then redo all tests to gain his certificates and ratings back again. He consulted a lawyer who argued for him and had the time period reduced to 6 months. He will redo everything in april. His attorney felt the ASRS identify strip would not help since the FAA would try to prove that it was a deliberate act and not inadvertent.

Title: PLT TRIES FOR AUTH TO TAKE ATP WRITTEN WITH FALSIFIED MEDICAL CERTIFICATE.

Narrative: I WENT INTO THE ORLANDO FAA FLT STANDARDS DISTRICT OFFICES AT AROUND XA00 PM TO GET AN AUTH TO TAKE THE ATP WRITTEN EXAM. BEFORE THIS DATE THOUGH, I NOTICED THAT MY FIRST CLASS MEDICAL CERTIFICATE WHICH WAS ISSUED ON JUN/XX/94 HAD EXPIRED FOR 1ST AND 2ND CLASS PRIVILEGES AND WAS NOW BASICALLY A 3RD CLASS MEDICAL. I TOLD MY FRIENDS I THOUGHT I NEEDED A FIRST CLASS IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AN AUTH TO TAKE AN ATP WRITTEN AND THEY SUGGESTED SINCE I HAD SCHEDULED MY EXAM ALREADY FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY (SAT) THAT I WHITE-OUT THE DATE FROM A 94 TO CHANGE IT TO A 95 WHICH WOULD MAKE IT APPEAR TO BE A FIRST CLASS. I SAID NO, I WOULD GO IN AND SEE IF THE FAA WOULD GIVE ME AN AUTH WITH A 3RD CLASS IF EVERYTHING ELSE WAS IN ORDER. I ONLY HOPE THAT SOMEONE WILL UNDERSTAND THE SIT AND THIS CAN BE RESOLVED WITHOUT MAJOR ACTION BEING TAKEN AGAINST MY RATINGS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THE FAA FOLLOW UP INDICATED A YR'S SUSPENSION OF HIS CERTIFICATES AND THEN REDO ALL TESTS TO GAIN HIS CERTIFICATES AND RATINGS BACK AGAIN. HE CONSULTED A LAWYER WHO ARGUED FOR HIM AND HAD THE TIME PERIOD REDUCED TO 6 MONTHS. HE WILL REDO EVERYTHING IN APRIL. HIS ATTORNEY FELT THE ASRS IDENT STRIP WOULD NOT HELP SINCE THE FAA WOULD TRY TO PROVE THAT IT WAS A DELIBERATE ACT AND NOT INADVERTENT.
