Narrative:

Falsification of maintenance logbook by an airline mechanic. Maintenance release was logged via zulu date, however the mechanic logged the time as XB00Z which was 15 mins after our scheduled departure time of XA45Z. We were delayed in arriving at aircraft by late company transportation. Checked logbooks first, found appropriate date for maintenance release. Went to flight plan, returned to aircraft with boarding in progress, briefed lead flight attendant, began cockpit preflight duties and interrupted by cockpit jumpseater arrival and briefing. First officer observed the maintenance release time was after scheduled departure. Began preflight checklist with intention of calling mechanic to cockpit at conclusion of checklist. Interrupted during checklist by agent and distracted. Agent closed door 5 mins early. Airline is placing intense pressure on employees, especially agents, to be 'on time' on departures and arrs. 'Pilot pushing' and non-teamwork attitudes have increased this summer. Combination of factors leading to decreased safety and marginal operating conditions. The corporate goals list 'never compromise safety' however the attitude is you better be on time first. The airline is run by marketing and they do not care.
