Narrative:

We pushed from the gate, about 25 mins after arriving for a flight to crp. Normal start sequence. Normal radio call for taxi. We received final taxi clearance to taxi to runway 4 via txwys C, K, hold short of runway 4. However, when we received that clearance, there was interference with the transmission due to a cross over carrier being transmitted on the same frequency. My copilot rogered and repeated the clearance correctly, but I misunderstood. Then we started a case of 'I thought' -- 'you thought.' the copilot was finishing the takeoff data and we were commencing the before takeoff checklist. I proceeded to taxi to runway 4 via 'H1' and 'H' (the 'normal' routing to runway 4, but not available due to extensive construction at hou). We both realized something was wrong when we just turned onto 'H.' just as we were stopping the aircraft ground control told us to stop, but this was somewhat unintelligible due to the interference of the prior mentioned carrier wave transmission. Well, we finally got that straightened out and proceeded the assigned route (safely) to runway 4, completed the checklists, and switched to tower (local) frequency. He told us 'K1' was available. We said we would take it and asked for a back taxi to runway 4. We were cleared for takeoff with a back taxi. I turned onto runway 4. It looked 'different.' we proceeded to the end, made a 180 degree for the takeoff and simultaneously with tower telling us that we might not want to takeoff from there as the runway was slightly short due to construction, we saw the numbers '35' at the end. Well, we finally made it over to runway 4 for a 'successful' departure, much embarrassed and humbled. I have been in and out of this airport on all runways for 19 yrs with nary a problem. But it had been a rather heavy, long 2 days of flying, and coupled with the major construction at hobby, tiredness, dark night, and flashing construction lights, we 2 humans broke down and allowed mr murphy to rear his head. A subsequent conversation with tower personnel (2 hours later) confirmed that this problem has happened numerous times since the construction was started.

Title: ATC COM XMISSION INTERFERENCE LED TO A CAPT'S MISUNDERSTANDING OF A TAXI CLRNC AND FURTHER TXWY AND RWY DISORIENTATION. FATIGUE AND NIGHT OPS WERE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. CTLR INTERVENED.

Narrative: WE PUSHED FROM THE GATE, ABOUT 25 MINS AFTER ARRIVING FOR A FLT TO CRP. NORMAL START SEQUENCE. NORMAL RADIO CALL FOR TAXI. WE RECEIVED FINAL TAXI CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 4 VIA TXWYS C, K, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 4. HOWEVER, WHEN WE RECEIVED THAT CLRNC, THERE WAS INTERFERENCE WITH THE XMISSION DUE TO A CROSS OVER CARRIER BEING XMITTED ON THE SAME FREQ. MY COPLT ROGERED AND REPEATED THE CLRNC CORRECTLY, BUT I MISUNDERSTOOD. THEN WE STARTED A CASE OF 'I THOUGHT' -- 'YOU THOUGHT.' THE COPLT WAS FINISHING THE TKOF DATA AND WE WERE COMMENCING THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST. I PROCEEDED TO TAXI TO RWY 4 VIA 'H1' AND 'H' (THE 'NORMAL' ROUTING TO RWY 4, BUT NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO EXTENSIVE CONSTRUCTION AT HOU). WE BOTH REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WHEN WE JUST TURNED ONTO 'H.' JUST AS WE WERE STOPPING THE ACFT GND CTL TOLD US TO STOP, BUT THIS WAS SOMEWHAT UNINTELLIGIBLE DUE TO THE INTERFERENCE OF THE PRIOR MENTIONED CARRIER WAVE XMISSION. WELL, WE FINALLY GOT THAT STRAIGHTENED OUT AND PROCEEDED THE ASSIGNED RTE (SAFELY) TO RWY 4, COMPLETED THE CHKLISTS, AND SWITCHED TO TWR (LCL) FREQ. HE TOLD US 'K1' WAS AVAILABLE. WE SAID WE WOULD TAKE IT AND ASKED FOR A BACK TAXI TO RWY 4. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF WITH A BACK TAXI. I TURNED ONTO RWY 4. IT LOOKED 'DIFFERENT.' WE PROCEEDED TO THE END, MADE A 180 DEG FOR THE TKOF AND SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH TWR TELLING US THAT WE MIGHT NOT WANT TO TKOF FROM THERE AS THE RWY WAS SLIGHTLY SHORT DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, WE SAW THE NUMBERS '35' AT THE END. WELL, WE FINALLY MADE IT OVER TO RWY 4 FOR A 'SUCCESSFUL' DEP, MUCH EMBARRASSED AND HUMBLED. I HAVE BEEN IN AND OUT OF THIS ARPT ON ALL RWYS FOR 19 YRS WITH NARY A PROB. BUT IT HAD BEEN A RATHER HVY, LONG 2 DAYS OF FLYING, AND COUPLED WITH THE MAJOR CONSTRUCTION AT HOBBY, TIREDNESS, DARK NIGHT, AND FLASHING CONSTRUCTION LIGHTS, WE 2 HUMANS BROKE DOWN AND ALLOWED MR MURPHY TO REAR HIS HEAD. A SUBSEQUENT CONVERSATION WITH TWR PERSONNEL (2 HRS LATER) CONFIRMED THAT THIS PROB HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE THE CONSTRUCTION WAS STARTED.
