Narrative:

Aircraft was coupled to IRS navigation. Route filed and received was entered into the FMC by the PF. Apparently a waypoint was passed by the FMC. Instead of going outbound on the vwv 115 degree radial, the aircraft proceeded direct wakem. Cle ARTCC asked if we had been cleared via the wakem 2 arrival and we had. We received a short vector, then were cleared direct to wakem. Crew had correctly entered the flight plan into the computer, however, it appears route wasn't verified prior to starting descent, or for some reason the computer dumped a waypoint. Company policy does not require raw data monitoring of route. On short flight segments in busy environments it's difficult for PNF to xchk every computer input. Crew coordination and communication was generally good between both pilots of crew. Supplemental information from acn 314139: I selected the arrival from the database in the FMC, along with the transition. The aircraft bypassed elija intersection went vwv direct wakem. The error could have been in the database, or FMC, or in cleaning up route discontinuities or was a result of executing as a waypoint was passed or a misunderstood clearance. (Crew rest) we had a XX00 am wake- up XA00 am van, XB00 am departure.

Title: ACR TRACK DEV RESULTED FROM FMC DATABASE DEFECT OR PROGRAMMING ERROR. CTLR INTERVENED.

Narrative: ACFT WAS COUPLED TO IRS NAV. RTE FILED AND RECEIVED WAS ENTERED INTO THE FMC BY THE PF. APPARENTLY A WAYPOINT WAS PASSED BY THE FMC. INSTEAD OF GOING OUTBOUND ON THE VWV 115 DEG RADIAL, THE ACFT PROCEEDED DIRECT WAKEM. CLE ARTCC ASKED IF WE HAD BEEN CLRED VIA THE WAKEM 2 ARR AND WE HAD. WE RECEIVED A SHORT VECTOR, THEN WERE CLRED DIRECT TO WAKEM. CREW HAD CORRECTLY ENTERED THE FLT PLAN INTO THE COMPUTER, HOWEVER, IT APPEARS RTE WASN'T VERIFIED PRIOR TO STARTING DSCNT, OR FOR SOME REASON THE COMPUTER DUMPED A WAYPOINT. COMPANY POLICY DOES NOT REQUIRE RAW DATA MONITORING OF RTE. ON SHORT FLT SEGMENTS IN BUSY ENVIRONMENTS IT'S DIFFICULT FOR PNF TO XCHK EVERY COMPUTER INPUT. CREW COORD AND COM WAS GENERALLY GOOD BTWN BOTH PLTS OF CREW. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 314139: I SELECTED THE ARR FROM THE DATABASE IN THE FMC, ALONG WITH THE TRANSITION. THE ACFT BYPASSED ELIJA INTXN WENT VWV DIRECT WAKEM. THE ERROR COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE DATABASE, OR FMC, OR IN CLEANING UP RTE DISCONTINUITIES OR WAS A RESULT OF EXECUTING AS A WAYPOINT WAS PASSED OR A MISUNDERSTOOD CLRNC. (CREW REST) WE HAD A XX00 AM WAKE- UP XA00 AM VAN, XB00 AM DEP.
