Narrative:

While running the before takeoff checklist and taxi for takeoff (using runway 25R at las on taxiway A2) we got the fire warning light and bell on engine #1. We shut down the engine with the start lever (engine was at idle), pulled the fire handle. Light stayed on and then we discharged the bottle (#1). Light went out. Did a system check of the fire detection system (it checked good), declared emergency with ground. Fire trucks looked us over and saw no evidence of fire. We taxied back to the gate to get maintenance done on the aircraft.
