Narrative:

Inadvertent deviation from altitude clearance in class B airspace on approach control. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he was operating an old world war I biplane trainer built by spain and now certificated in the experimental category. It's gross weight is approximately 900 pounds and is obviously very slow. Therefore, when he operates out of his home base of love field in dallas, tx, in class B airspace, it causes ATC to allow more room to accommodate his aircraft. It was during a VFR approach wherein he was assigned 2500 ft for allowing traffic separation underneath his aircraft that he wandered off altitude and descended off altitude that ATC intervened and redirected him to the tower for landing. Hence, this report. His aircraft is equipped with a encoding altimeter with transponder and appropriate communication radios to operate in class B airspace.

Title: PVT PLT OF AN EXPERIMENTAL SMALL BIPLANE DSNDED BELOW ASSIGNED ALT IN CLASS B AIRSPACE WHILE APCHING TO LAND.

Narrative: INADVERTENT DEV FROM ALT CLRNC IN CLASS B AIRSPACE ON APCH CTL. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE WAS OPERATING AN OLD WORLD WAR I BIPLANE TRAINER BUILT BY SPAIN AND NOW CERTIFICATED IN THE EXPERIMENTAL CATEGORY. IT'S GROSS WT IS APPROX 900 LBS AND IS OBVIOUSLY VERY SLOW. THEREFORE, WHEN HE OPERATES OUT OF HIS HOME BASE OF LOVE FIELD IN DALLAS, TX, IN CLASS B AIRSPACE, IT CAUSES ATC TO ALLOW MORE ROOM TO ACCOMMODATE HIS ACFT. IT WAS DURING A VFR APCH WHEREIN HE WAS ASSIGNED 2500 FT FOR ALLOWING TFC SEPARATION UNDERNEATH HIS ACFT THAT HE WANDERED OFF ALT AND DSNDED OFF ALT THAT ATC INTERVENED AND REDIRECTED HIM TO THE TWR FOR LNDG. HENCE, THIS RPT. HIS ACFT IS EQUIPPED WITH A ENCODING ALTIMETER WITH XPONDER AND APPROPRIATE COM RADIOS TO OPERATE IN CLASS B AIRSPACE.
