Narrative:

Upon landing at 55J, we were notified by a lineman, runway 35/17 was closed to jet aircraft. The only NOTAM we received from FSS was runway 31/13 was closed. We called FSS again in fernandina beach and again the only NOTAM we received was runway 31/13 was closed. The lineman said again that runway 35/17 was closed to jet traffic and then called FSS himself. FSS said the only runway NOTAM was for runway 31/13. After a few mins FSS called the FBO back and said there was a class C NOTAM saying runway 35/17 was closed to jet traffic. Corrective action: FSS should give all important NOTAMS during a pilot brief regardless of class. Approach plates should also have this type of information for the pilots, without having to go to the chart NOTAMS section. The runway was closed to jet aircraft because of cracks in the runway. There was no ATIS at fernandina beach to advise pilots of the runway restr, and upon initial contact with unicom the same lineman that met our aircraft did not warn us of the runway restr until we were on the ground. In the future I will always request all NOTAM when flying into an uncontrolled airport. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter states he noted 2 problems. The lineman was on unicom and did not tell him until after landing that the runway was closed. Why didn't he tell him before he landed? Second problem was that the FSS did not seem to have the correct information regarding the NOTAM. How is a pilot supposed to know if FSS doesn't know correct information? Even after 10 yrs of flying he has just learned something new and he will always check the chart NOTAMS at any non tower airport. He feels he will get the right information at tower controled airports. It turns out that one of the runways is being resurfaced so hopefully at least one will be good enough for a descent landing. Right now all of the runways seem to have cracks causing a very bumpy landing or takeoff.

Title: CORP ACFT LANDS ON CLOSED RWY.

Narrative: UPON LNDG AT 55J, WE WERE NOTIFIED BY A LINEMAN, RWY 35/17 WAS CLOSED TO JET ACFT. THE ONLY NOTAM WE RECEIVED FROM FSS WAS RWY 31/13 WAS CLOSED. WE CALLED FSS AGAIN IN FERNANDINA BEACH AND AGAIN THE ONLY NOTAM WE RECEIVED WAS RWY 31/13 WAS CLOSED. THE LINEMAN SAID AGAIN THAT RWY 35/17 WAS CLOSED TO JET TFC AND THEN CALLED FSS HIMSELF. FSS SAID THE ONLY RWY NOTAM WAS FOR RWY 31/13. AFTER A FEW MINS FSS CALLED THE FBO BACK AND SAID THERE WAS A CLASS C NOTAM SAYING RWY 35/17 WAS CLOSED TO JET TFC. CORRECTIVE ACTION: FSS SHOULD GIVE ALL IMPORTANT NOTAMS DURING A PLT BRIEF REGARDLESS OF CLASS. APCH PLATES SHOULD ALSO HAVE THIS TYPE OF INFO FOR THE PLTS, WITHOUT HAVING TO GO TO THE CHART NOTAMS SECTION. THE RWY WAS CLOSED TO JET ACFT BECAUSE OF CRACKS IN THE RWY. THERE WAS NO ATIS AT FERNANDINA BEACH TO ADVISE PLTS OF THE RWY RESTR, AND UPON INITIAL CONTACT WITH UNICOM THE SAME LINEMAN THAT MET OUR ACFT DID NOT WARN US OF THE RWY RESTR UNTIL WE WERE ON THE GND. IN THE FUTURE I WILL ALWAYS REQUEST ALL NOTAM WHEN FLYING INTO AN UNCTLED ARPT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR STATES HE NOTED 2 PROBS. THE LINEMAN WAS ON UNICOM AND DID NOT TELL HIM UNTIL AFTER LNDG THAT THE RWY WAS CLOSED. WHY DIDN'T HE TELL HIM BEFORE HE LANDED? SECOND PROB WAS THAT THE FSS DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE THE CORRECT INFO REGARDING THE NOTAM. HOW IS A PLT SUPPOSED TO KNOW IF FSS DOESN'T KNOW CORRECT INFO? EVEN AFTER 10 YRS OF FLYING HE HAS JUST LEARNED SOMETHING NEW AND HE WILL ALWAYS CHK THE CHART NOTAMS AT ANY NON TWR ARPT. HE FEELS HE WILL GET THE RIGHT INFO AT TWR CTLED ARPTS. IT TURNS OUT THAT ONE OF THE RWYS IS BEING RESURFACED SO HOPEFULLY AT LEAST ONE WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR A DSCNT LNDG. RIGHT NOW ALL OF THE RWYS SEEM TO HAVE CRACKS CAUSING A VERY BUMPY LNDG OR TKOF.
