Narrative:

The captain told the ground crew we were cleared to pushback. The ground crew pushed us through the alley but did not stop and the tail was pushed onto the active taxiway. I did try to tell the captain to get the ground crew to stop because we did not have a clearance to push. Several problems in communication caused this to happen. When we landed in sjn and went to ground to taxi to our gate ground said to do so with caution because it was not visible from the old tower. I did not call for pushback clearance because I thought we would start in the alley in a non-movement area. On my part this will always be avoided now because I will always call for push clearance from all gates in the future.
