Narrative:
On or approaching base leg for runway 23 at mmu, I lowered the landing gear. I did not get a down and locked light. I cycled the gear 2 times. Since I had to go around anyway because the light did not go on, I asked the tower to take a look. They stated the gear looked down. I then told the tower I would leave the pattern to go run the emergency gear extension checklist. I also intended to change the bulb. At that time the light went on (before I left the pattern and as I was telling the tower I intended to leave). I reported to the tower that I now had a safe condition and was cleared to land. On landing, I was greeted by the police. I had not declared an emergency, requested any priority handling, or any special services. In any event, I had to fill out a police report. The condition is being checked by the shop. My guess is that it is a microswitch gone bad.
