Narrative:

At lift off from runway 28L (pit) APU fire warning occurred. Complied with emergency checklist, discharged fire bottle warning ceased. No emergency was declared since no warnings were present -- no reports of smoke/fire from tower. Returned to departure airport (pit) accomplished normal landing procedures except slightly over (less than 1000 pounds) maximum landing weight. Although no emergency was declared, pit crash fire rescue equipment was waiting for us after landing. I am submitting this report for possible use of NASA immunity in case FAA criticizes my decision to land overweight non-emergency.
