Narrative:

Upon arriving at imt airport southeast, cessna was practicing takeoff and lndgs on runway 1. When having exchanged cargo (approximately 5 mins), taxied to runway 1 and reported over unicom I was departing runway 1. Upon application, I checked base and final for that runway and proceeded with takeoff roll. Well into the takeoff roll began to distinguish aircraft on runway who was landing runway 19 which was downwind and not the favorable runway. Noticed that that aircraft was starting to rotate and depart. I elected to remain on the ground longer and extend for takeoff further down the runway. Decided not to abort takeoff since there would not have been enough room if other aircraft elected to do the same. Both aircraft missed with sufficient room. Writing report for precaution and also going on record that other aircraft was: 1) not landing on favored runway. He was landing downwind. He had been using runway 1 and therefore, I checked base and final for that runway not expecting other opposing traffic on runway 19. 2) no radio communication. Did not hear aircraft reporting final and he did not respond when I was communicating my intentions for departing when he was apparently landing on opposing runway. A simple radio call on his part stating he was landing runway 19 would have been sufficient for me not to take active runway which was favoring runway 1. Could produce witness for report if necessary.

Title: NMAC. TKOF TFC CONFLICT WITH LNDG TFC, OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

Narrative: UPON ARRIVING AT IMT ARPT SE, CESSNA WAS PRACTICING TKOF AND LNDGS ON RWY 1. WHEN HAVING EXCHANGED CARGO (APPROX 5 MINS), TAXIED TO RWY 1 AND RPTED OVER UNICOM I WAS DEPARTING RWY 1. UPON APPLICATION, I CHKED BASE AND FINAL FOR THAT RWY AND PROCEEDED WITH TKOF ROLL. WELL INTO THE TKOF ROLL BEGAN TO DISTINGUISH ACFT ON RWY WHO WAS LNDG RWY 19 WHICH WAS DOWNWIND AND NOT THE FAVORABLE RWY. NOTICED THAT THAT ACFT WAS STARTING TO ROTATE AND DEPART. I ELECTED TO REMAIN ON THE GND LONGER AND EXTEND FOR TKOF FURTHER DOWN THE RWY. DECIDED NOT TO ABORT TKOF SINCE THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ENOUGH ROOM IF OTHER ACFT ELECTED TO DO THE SAME. BOTH ACFT MISSED WITH SUFFICIENT ROOM. WRITING RPT FOR PRECAUTION AND ALSO GOING ON RECORD THAT OTHER ACFT WAS: 1) NOT LNDG ON FAVORED RWY. HE WAS LNDG DOWNWIND. HE HAD BEEN USING RWY 1 AND THEREFORE, I CHKED BASE AND FINAL FOR THAT RWY NOT EXPECTING OTHER OPPOSING TFC ON RWY 19. 2) NO RADIO COM. DID NOT HEAR ACFT RPTING FINAL AND HE DID NOT RESPOND WHEN I WAS COMMUNICATING MY INTENTIONS FOR DEPARTING WHEN HE WAS APPARENTLY LNDG ON OPPOSING RWY. A SIMPLE RADIO CALL ON HIS PART STATING HE WAS LNDG RWY 19 WOULD HAVE BEEN SUFFICIENT FOR ME NOT TO TAKE ACTIVE RWY WHICH WAS FAVORING RWY 1. COULD PRODUCE WITNESS FOR RPT IF NECESSARY.
