Narrative:

Sitting in hold position at end of runway at manassas va. We got a clearance change. After updating computers we were cleared for takeoff, contacted dulles departure and were told our route was closed down and to proceed to csn VOR. At 3000 ft, approximately 5 NM from VOR we were given holding instructions, ' hold east of csn on 090 degree radial maintain 3000 ft with right turns.' in my haste to set up radial on CDI I dialed in 090 degree radial as my course when I should have dialed in 270 degrees. I flew past VOR approximately 5 NM when I realized my mistake. I immediately turned back toward VOR to re- establish holding pattern. As I was passing over VOR we were given heading 030 to fly and climb instructions. There were no conflicts. Due to rush to enter holding pattern my situational awareness was not appropriate. I will monitor that more closely and verify what I hear on the radio in terms of clrncs.
