Narrative:

Cleared the visual to runway 24R at lax while on a right base at 5000 ft MSL. Instructed to follow a twin-engine commuter on 4-5 mi final to runway 24R. Got the traffic in sight and began the turn to final. Approximately 2500 ft AGL, the tower asked if we were correcting back to runway 24R and at that time I realized I was lining up on runway 25R. We came back right and completed an uneventful landing on runway 24R. Neither the captain nor I were aware we had overshot final for runway 24R. There was traffic (a metroliner to the south) but evidently there was no conflict as we talked to the tower afterward. I cannot explain how I mistook runway 25R for runway 24R except to say that I just fixated on the runway while configuring the airplane for landing. Luckily the tower controller was very alert and she queried us immediately when she saw us overshoot final.

Narrative: CLRED THE VISUAL TO RWY 24R AT LAX WHILE ON A R BASE AT 5000 FT MSL. INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW A TWIN-ENG COMMUTER ON 4-5 MI FINAL TO RWY 24R. GOT THE TFC IN SIGHT AND BEGAN THE TURN TO FINAL. APPROX 2500 FT AGL, THE TWR ASKED IF WE WERE CORRECTING BACK TO RWY 24R AND AT THAT TIME I REALIZED I WAS LINING UP ON RWY 25R. WE CAME BACK R AND COMPLETED AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG ON RWY 24R. NEITHER THE CAPT NOR I WERE AWARE WE HAD OVERSHOT FINAL FOR RWY 24R. THERE WAS TFC (A METROLINER TO THE S) BUT EVIDENTLY THERE WAS NO CONFLICT AS WE TALKED TO THE TWR AFTERWARD. I CANNOT EXPLAIN HOW I MISTOOK RWY 25R FOR RWY 24R EXCEPT TO SAY THAT I JUST FIXATED ON THE RWY WHILE CONFIGURING THE AIRPLANE FOR LNDG. LUCKILY THE TWR CTLR WAS VERY ALERT AND SHE QUERIED US IMMEDIATELY WHEN SHE SAW US OVERSHOOT FINAL.
