Narrative:

Due to wind shear, possible microburst, preceding aircraft reported 40 KT loss just as we experienced 30 KT gain, we executed a missed approach. Tower acknowledged our missed approach with climb on runway heading but we couldn't get an altitude assignment until on approach who assigned us 5000 ft where we leveled off. We were uncomfortable with the lack of altitude assignment from tower. There were no apparent conflicts.
