Narrative:

I departed teb airport via the sierra helicopter route at approximately XA38 local after receiving teb ATIS. There was no mention of any airspace restrs on the ATIS nor did either the ground or local controller issue any information about a temporary flight restr in the vicinity of the hudson river, the exit point for the sierra route. Upon reaching the hudson river at approximately XA40 local I contacted lga tower for permission to enter the new york class B airspace overhead central park and the east river for landing at E60 street heliport. The lga controller made no mention of any flight restr either. After landing at E60 street heliport, I heard mention of a temporary flight restr in the hudson river area. I asked the lga controller if he was aware of any flight restrs and he said he was not. When I got back to my home base I contacted bangor flight service and asked if they had any information about a temporary flight restr in the new york city area. He said they did not. I finally was able to get a faxed copy of a temporary flight restr from the E60 street heliport. Fortunately I entered the affected airspace at the exact time of the expring restr. However, it could have been a problem had I been 5 mins earlier. I recommend that restr airspace NOTAMS applicable to helicopters operating in the new york city area receive wider dissemination. At the very least they should be placed on ATIS for teb, jfk, ewr, and lga.

Title: THE RPTR DISCOVERED THAT A TEMPORARY FLT RESTR, UNKNOWN TO HIM OR THE CTLING AGENCY, WAS IN PLACE UNTIL JUST BEFORE HE PASSED THROUGH THE AFFECTED AIRSPACE. THE PLT WANTS FUTURE NOTAMS WIDELY DISTRIBUTED TO THE AFFECTED CTLING AGENCIES AND USERS.

Narrative: I DEPARTED TEB ARPT VIA THE SIERRA HELI RTE AT APPROX XA38 LCL AFTER RECEIVING TEB ATIS. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF ANY AIRSPACE RESTRS ON THE ATIS NOR DID EITHER THE GND OR LCL CTLR ISSUE ANY INFO ABOUT A TEMPORARY FLT RESTR IN THE VICINITY OF THE HUDSON RIVER, THE EXIT POINT FOR THE SIERRA RTE. UPON REACHING THE HUDSON RIVER AT APPROX XA40 LCL I CONTACTED LGA TWR FOR PERMISSION TO ENTER THE NEW YORK CLASS B AIRSPACE OVERHEAD CENTRAL PARK AND THE EAST RIVER FOR LNDG AT E60 STREET HELIPORT. THE LGA CTLR MADE NO MENTION OF ANY FLT RESTR EITHER. AFTER LNDG AT E60 STREET HELIPORT, I HEARD MENTION OF A TEMPORARY FLT RESTR IN THE HUDSON RIVER AREA. I ASKED THE LGA CTLR IF HE WAS AWARE OF ANY FLT RESTRS AND HE SAID HE WAS NOT. WHEN I GOT BACK TO MY HOME BASE I CONTACTED BANGOR FLT SVC AND ASKED IF THEY HAD ANY INFO ABOUT A TEMPORARY FLT RESTR IN THE NEW YORK CITY AREA. HE SAID THEY DID NOT. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET A FAXED COPY OF A TEMPORARY FLT RESTR FROM THE E60 STREET HELIPORT. FORTUNATELY I ENTERED THE AFFECTED AIRSPACE AT THE EXACT TIME OF THE EXPRING RESTR. HOWEVER, IT COULD HAVE BEEN A PROB HAD I BEEN 5 MINS EARLIER. I RECOMMEND THAT RESTR AIRSPACE NOTAMS APPLICABLE TO HELIS OPERATING IN THE NEW YORK CITY AREA RECEIVE WIDER DISSEMINATION. AT THE VERY LEAST THEY SHOULD BE PLACED ON ATIS FOR TEB, JFK, EWR, AND LGA.
