Narrative:
I was flying from oak to Q99, I misunderstood when ATC wanted me to transition along the foothills, so I held my position then turned toward final approach course. After many calls I left the airspace and never crossed the final course. I am working on ATC during peak hours to prevent this from occurring again.

Title: PVT PLT OF A SMA HELI FAILED TO COMPLY WITH ATC INSTRUCTIONS DURING TRANSITIONING OF CLASS D AIRSPACE.
Narrative: I WAS FLYING FROM OAK TO Q99, I MISUNDERSTOOD WHEN ATC WANTED ME TO TRANSITION ALONG THE FOOTHILLS, SO I HELD MY POS THEN TURNED TOWARD FINAL APCH COURSE. AFTER MANY CALLS I LEFT THE AIRSPACE AND NEVER CROSSED THE FINAL COURSE. I AM WORKING ON ATC DURING PEAK HRS TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING AGAIN.
