Narrative:

Approximately 6 NM southwest of kinston airport, I received directions from kinston tower to report straight-in final to runway 05. I mistakenly believed that I had received a clearance to land, and did so. I was informed upon roll-out by kinston tower that I had not received clearance to land. At the time of my approach, there was no other traffic in the area and I believed I heard the tower inform me that I had clearance to land. I realize I was in error in not confirming landing clearance before landing. I contribute my mistake to lack of recent solo cross country experience to a controled airport, as well as becoming fixed on my task of approaching and landing that I did not pay enough attention to the directions being given to me by kinston tower. This was a slip-up on my part, and will not happen again.

Title: AS A RESULT OF RPTR CLAIMED FIXATION DURING APCH AND LNDG, RPTR LANDED AT CLASS D ARPT WITHOUT A LNDG CLRNC.

Narrative: APPROX 6 NM SW OF KINSTON ARPT, I RECEIVED DIRECTIONS FROM KINSTON TWR TO RPT STRAIGHT-IN FINAL TO RWY 05. I MISTAKENLY BELIEVED THAT I HAD RECEIVED A CLRNC TO LAND, AND DID SO. I WAS INFORMED UPON ROLL-OUT BY KINSTON TWR THAT I HAD NOT RECEIVED CLRNC TO LAND. AT THE TIME OF MY APCH, THERE WAS NO OTHER TFC IN THE AREA AND I BELIEVED I HEARD THE TWR INFORM ME THAT I HAD CLRNC TO LAND. I REALIZE I WAS IN ERROR IN NOT CONFIRMING LNDG CLRNC BEFORE LNDG. I CONTRIBUTE MY MISTAKE TO LACK OF RECENT SOLO XCOUNTRY EXPERIENCE TO A CTLED ARPT, AS WELL AS BECOMING FIXED ON MY TASK OF APCHING AND LNDG THAT I DID NOT PAY ENOUGH ATTN TO THE DIRECTIONS BEING GIVEN TO ME BY KINSTON TWR. THIS WAS A SLIP-UP ON MY PART, AND WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
