Narrative:

I received my clearance from mke to fwa on the ground at mke. This was a stored flight plan that had been entered by my company. Mke gave me the clearance which read, 'cleared to fwa via the brew 3 departure, brave intersection, as filed, maintain 5000 ft, departure on 119.65, squawk wxyz.' I thought the 'stored flight plan' was direct gij direct fwa after brave intersection. Mke departure gave me 'direct brave, on course' and handed me to ZAU. Because the stored flight plan was actually from mke direct elx direct fwa, ZAU questioned me as I proceeded to gij. Controller asked if I was direct elx or direct fwa. I told him I thought the flight plan was direct gij direct fwa. He said it showed direct elx, then told me to turn about 2 degrees left and proceed direct fwa. I did so without conflict of any sort. To preclude this in the future, I will be more certain to clarify the contents of a stored flight plan. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter flies the C-310. The procedure at the time of this incident was for one pilot to tell the next what the stored routing was for various trips, there was no paper routing for the pilots to carry with them. Since this incident, this has been changed and each pilot has all of the stored routings with him. The reporter has not heard from the FAA on this incident.

Title: TRACK DEV.

Narrative: I RECEIVED MY CLRNC FROM MKE TO FWA ON THE GND AT MKE. THIS WAS A STORED FLT PLAN THAT HAD BEEN ENTERED BY MY COMPANY. MKE GAVE ME THE CLRNC WHICH READ, 'CLRED TO FWA VIA THE BREW 3 DEP, BRAVE INTXN, AS FILED, MAINTAIN 5000 FT, DEP ON 119.65, SQUAWK WXYZ.' I THOUGHT THE 'STORED FLT PLAN' WAS DIRECT GIJ DIRECT FWA AFTER BRAVE INTXN. MKE DEP GAVE ME 'DIRECT BRAVE, ON COURSE' AND HANDED ME TO ZAU. BECAUSE THE STORED FLT PLAN WAS ACTUALLY FROM MKE DIRECT ELX DIRECT FWA, ZAU QUESTIONED ME AS I PROCEEDED TO GIJ. CTLR ASKED IF I WAS DIRECT ELX OR DIRECT FWA. I TOLD HIM I THOUGHT THE FLT PLAN WAS DIRECT GIJ DIRECT FWA. HE SAID IT SHOWED DIRECT ELX, THEN TOLD ME TO TURN ABOUT 2 DEGS L AND PROCEED DIRECT FWA. I DID SO WITHOUT CONFLICT OF ANY SORT. TO PRECLUDE THIS IN THE FUTURE, I WILL BE MORE CERTAIN TO CLARIFY THE CONTENTS OF A STORED FLT PLAN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR FLIES THE C-310. THE PROC AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT WAS FOR ONE PLT TO TELL THE NEXT WHAT THE STORED ROUTING WAS FOR VARIOUS TRIPS, THERE WAS NO PAPER ROUTING FOR THE PLTS TO CARRY WITH THEM. SINCE THIS INCIDENT, THIS HAS BEEN CHANGED AND EACH PLT HAS ALL OF THE STORED ROUTINGS WITH HIM. THE RPTR HAS NOT HEARD FROM THE FAA ON THIS INCIDENT.
