Cpr X, executing expressway visual approach runway 31 at lga, was overtaken from left rear by air carrier Y. Near collision occurred. Evasive action taken by cpr X, none by air carrier Y. Landed uneventfully at lga. Air carrier Y continued flight to unknown destination. Tower was advised by cpr X of near miss event while on final approach.
