Narrative:

On descent into rdu on south boston 3 arrival, we were given clearance to cross aldan intersection at 250 KIAS and 10000 ft by ZDC. We set that clearance in the FMS. We were then handed off to rdu approach control. A different approach and landing runway was then assigned to us by approach control while we rebriefed the new approach and set it in the FMS and dfgc. We failed to notice the dfgc was in altitude hold and not VNAV level. We failed to meet the restr at aldan intersection because we assumed the FMS would start our descent.
